Diving into Dysport

Long before Juan Ponce De Leon, people have been searching for the fountain of youth. Funny when we were in our 20s & 30s, we often didn’t take the proper care of our skin like we should have, and now as we reach our 40s, 50s, 60s and so on...we work hard to nourish our skin and bring it back to the way it was in our 20s and 30s. If only we would have known then, what we know now or at least would have listened!
With advancements in education and science, we’ve learned the importance of sun protection and regular skin checks. Having a good relationship with your dermatologist is key because your skin is your largest organ, so taking care of it is vital.
But just as education and science has improved, so has our knowledge in the cosmetic dermatology side of things. Not only does our office see many patients for medical dermatology, often our patients inquire about some of the latest procedures today that can take years off your looks.
Recently, one of our patients in her mid 30s had a strong set of 11s in between her brows. Every time she would sit down to write a story or get stressed under deadline, she would scrunch her eyebrows together when she concentrated, leaving two fairly deep wrinkles that even stuck around when she wasn’t stressed. She also had crow’s feet surrounding her eyes. After living for years out West as a snowboarder, the harsh sun and winter weather really affected the skin around her delicate eyes. To say she was nervous to try anything would be an understatement, which is completely understandable!

We make sure that we have a complete consultation with each patient so they understand any risks when undergoing any procedure in our office. So we sat down with our snowboarder and suggested Dysport. Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

No, it's not our
snowboarder
It's the Dysport
Get the Facts Gal!
Recently mentioned as Botox’s “younger cousin” in several magazine articles, Dysport is still new to the ears of our patients but works similarly to Botox. Dysport blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines.

Our snowboarder got the Dysport injections and recently sent us this, “Thanks so much for holding my hand when I took the Dysport plunge! I just came back from my hairstylist and he kept asking what I’m doing to myself because I look so refreshed. I admitted I got Dysport but told him that it’s our little secret! That and my highlights! Thanks Dr. Germain!”

Now we know this won’t be for everyone but it’s always great to see how self esteem, attitude and your overall confidence can change when you invest in taking care of yourself. It doesn’t have to be injections, it can just be investing in a good skin care line like Germain Rx or getting a Silk Peel.

Marching into Spring

We’re always looking for non-invasive ways to turn back the hands of time and one of the procedures we had for a some time in our office isn’t losing any steam! It’s a procedure called Pellevé and our patients really enjoy it. Pellevé is virtually painless and requires no recovery time, so it fits easily into busy schedules and can provide lasting improvement up to six months.
Pellevé delivers constant, gradual energy to the skin, causing heat to build up where the skin and fat layer come together. The increasing heat modifies the collagen bundles deep inside the skin, causing them to contract and stimulating the growth of new collagen over time. This results in firmer, tighter skin.

A full facial treatment typically takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Because no anesthesia is used and any swelling is minor, there is no downtime. Many people see the result immediately after just one treatment, with lasting improvement for up to six months as the skin produces new collagen. Additional treatments may improve results, so you should consult with us for a recommended number of treatments. Medical studies have proven that Pellevé is a safe and effective way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles without surgery.

Pellevé was recently featured on the October edition of Beauty Spaces which aired on WEtv and The Learning Channel.
